Engravings of King Henri III of France

These were done some 100 years ago and show the King at his "shady" best  - the picture at right by Weirix is particularly well known

The peascod belly of the suit was quite fashionable: it is common in pictures of men in the later years of Queen Elizabeth of England's reign.

This pair of portraits dates to the Second Empire ca. 1850-1870.  It shows Henri III and his wife Louise de Lorraine

She is shown in fashions that date to the reign of Louis XIII, rather than her classic heart-shaped hairdo of the 1580s. She lived until 1605, and did not survive until the reign of Louis XIII, so her portrait is quite an anachronism.  This brings into doubt any veracity of his portrait.
