King Henri III

King Charles IX of France

A year older than brother King Henri III.  See the king's portraits on his coins

As a child king

This portrait is unique because his hair is en ratepenade, curled away from his face, which is rarely visible due to his omnipresent hats.  Chalres' eyes were grey, not black:

Note the pearl necklace in the portrait in black dress - virtually the same necklace for which Henri III received much criticism

The Erroneous 19th Century View of the King

Polemics of the 16th century claimed the king took part in the St bartholomew's day massacre; he supposedly shot at Proestants across the Seine River from the Louvre.

Later historical research would show that the weapons of the time did not have the range to do so.
