The House of Montmorency

One of the three great noble houses in France

The house is one of the oldest in France but it rose to prominence under King Francois I  when Anne de Montmorency (sic, a man) was promoted to the level of Constable of France, the highest military rank.

His five sons would vie for power throughout the reigns of kings Charles IX, Henri III and IV.

Their fall from power would however be swift, when Henri I's son 'would be executed for treason
